Three dead in Riverwalk shootings

Omg i use to live in riverwalk a few months ago ): .. glad this didnt happen when i was there but sorry for the familys who lost a love one.
Riverside police are trying to determine why a man with a gun shot two people to death in an upscale neighborhood and then was himself shot by a police officer.
The double-homicide took place this evening in the 11500 block of Trailway Drive in the Riverwalk area of western Riverside, said Riverside police Lt. Guy Toussaint.
Officers received reports of shots fired just before 6 p.m., Toussaint said. When officers arrived minutes later, "an officer-involved shooting occurred, and the suspect was shot," he said. The suspect was taken to a hospital. Toussaint said he expected his condition was serious.
"We don't know what caused the shooting," he said, adding that such an occurrence "would be out of place for a neighborhood like this, out of place for the Riverwalk area. These are very nice homes, this is a very nice neighborhood."
Toussaint said investigators were still trying to determine if the shooter had any relationship to his victims. It was not clear if any of them were residents of the area.
"We're going to be here for many hours," he said of the investigation.

Letter from America: Pakistan, torture and Islamophobia, all at once

As headiness over the killing of Osama bin Laden ebbs, three nettlesome issues have resurfaced in public debate—how to resolve long strained relations with Pakistan, the use of torture to gain information from terror suspects, and Islamophobia.President Obama put it diplomatically: “We think that there had to be some sort of support network for Bin Laden inside of Pakistan. But we don’t know who or what that support network was. We don’t know whether there might have been some people inside of government, people outside of government, and that’s something that we have to investigate, and more importantly, the Pakistani government has to investigate.”

Revisiting Islamophobia after bin Laden's Death

The 9/11 terrorist attacks and Osama bin Laden seemed like a distant memory. In the past week, terrorism, bias, and inter-religious dialogue have dominated the news.

Obama calls immigration reform critical, blasts GOP opponents

President Barack Obama renewed his push for comprehensive immigration reform Tuesday, citing America's legacy as a nation of immigrants and saying that finding a solution for millions of undocumented workers is critical to the country's common future.
"We define ourselves as a nation of immigrants -- a nation that welcomes those willing to embrace America's precepts," Obama said during a visit to El Paso, Texas.

Immigration reform taking center stage in Texas

Obama has held a series of meetings with key Latino officials and reform advocates in recent weeks. Despite an aggressive push for substantive policy changes from his political base, the president recently indicated he has ruled out acting on his own to implement provisions of a reform bill that failed to win congressional approval last year.

Despite bin ladens death obamas election hopes tied economy

Republicans plotting to recapture the White House from a president who appears vulnerable on economic issues now face a new challenge: how to campaign against the man who captured osama bin laden. After authorizing a high-risk commando raid that led to the killing of the world's most notorious terrorist on Sunday, Obama's popularity is on the rise. A few Research Center poll taken after the dramatic raid shows Obama's approval rating jumped 9 percentage points to 56 percent. And Obama will get a chance to take a victory lap on Thursday when he visits Ground Zero.

Osama bin Laden's $50-million bounty should go to Sept. 11 victims

Osama bin laden was killed through means that don't make anyone eligible to receive a reward, the White House said Monday. So what should be done with the millions that were earmarked for the Bin Laden bounty? Give it to the 9/11 victims and their families, two New York congressmen suggest.

Obama's Stimulus Reaps Rewards: Major Education Union Begins 2012 Endorsement

The stimulus package passed early in the president’s tenure sent $150 billion in new federal spending  to school districts and universities. Then when that funding dried up in the summer of 2010, the White House and congressional Democrats moved to fill in the gap, about $10 billion to prevent teacher layoffs as part of a $26 billion package in state aid.

Georgia passes immigration bill similar to Arizona's

Following Arizona's lead, the Georgia Legislature on Thursday passed a strict measure that would empower police to check the immigration status of criminal suspects and force many businesses to do the same with potential employees. The bill passed in the waning hours of the legislative session despite critics' outcries. Immigrant advocates threatened a state boycott if it became law.

Judge orders woman adopted as baby deported to Mexico

Immigration laws do not recognize adoption as a special circumstance in deportations.
Cohen said that despite the immigration laws, she feels she is as American as anyone else is this country because she was brought here by her American parents and raised as an American.
Her parents didn't get her naturalized nor did she when she had the chance. By the time she tried to get citizenship as the spouse of an American, she was already in trouble with the law.

Immigration and Emigration

The number of illegal immigrants peaked at an estimated 11.9 million in 2008. About 11.2 million illegal immigrants were living in the United States in 2010, a number essentially unchanged from the previous year, a 2011 study showed. Arizona passed a law that would allow officers to check a person's immigration status while enforcing other laws and that required immigrants to carry their papers at all times. Legislative leaders in at least half a dozen states have said they will propose bills similar to Arizona's law.

Immigration bill revised to ease enforcement

The changes made by the Senate Judiciary Committee eased the requirements on local law enforcement to try to enforce federal immigration laws. Opponents of the bill had likened the mandates to an immigration crackdown in Arizona, which they say opened to door to racial profiling.

Immigration cap will not stem flow of IT workers to UK on ICT visas

The immigration cap, which comes into force on 6 April 2011, will have little effect on the number of economic migrants entering the UK because businesses can continue to use the uncapped Intra Company Transfer scheme to access skills, according to Migration Watch.

Man Apologizes for Traffic via Twitter

This article I found is about a guy who's car stalled in the center lane on the 5 freeway in Seattle.  The man (Micheletti) was actually heading to the BMW dealership because the service light had come on recently and was going to get it checked out when his car stalled.  He missed the dealership by two miles.  Micheletti called for a tow truck and then decided he was going to post a message on Twitter.  He posted, "That black BMW stalled in the center lane on the I-5? Yeah that's me, I don't like it either."  Within minutes people were reposting his message.  About 20 minutes later AAA was able to move his car to the shoulder and finish towing him the rest of the way to the dealership.  Then again Micheletti was on his Twitter thanking all for their help and apologizing for the inconvenience.  He seemed amused at all the attention he was getting over his post.  This story just shows how much people rely on the Internet for communication and information.

How Billionaires Rule Our Schools

The COST of K–12 public schooling in the United States comes to well over $500 billion per year. So, how much influence could anyone in the private sector exert by controlling just a few billion dollars of that immense sum?

New evidence of alien life!!

Aliens exist, and we have proof!!!
That astonishingly awesome claim comes from Dr. Richard B. Hoover, an astrobiologist at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, who says he has found conclusive evidence of alien life — fossils of bacteria found in an extremely rare class of meteorite called CI1 carbonaceous chondrites. (There are only nine such meteorites on planet Earth.) Hoover’s findings were published late Friday night in the Journal of Cosmology, a peer-reviewed scientific journal.

Revelation about Lincoln stirs controversy

Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address has inspired Americans for generations, but consider his jarring remarks in 1862 to a White House audience of free blacks, urging them to leave the U.S. and settle in Central America.
"For the sake of your race, you should sacrifice something of your present comfort for the purpose of being as grand in that respect as the white people," Lincoln said, promoting his idea of colonization: resettling blacks in foreign countries on the belief that whites and blacks could not coexist in the same nation.

Suspect in airport shooting recently radicalized

German officials said Thursday the 21-year-old temporary letter sorter with the postal service has admitted targeting Americans when he opened fire with a handgun on a busload of 15 U.S. airmen at Frankfurt's airport on their way to deployment in Afghanistan, killing two and wounding two more.

Technical foul on cheerleader nearly costs Louisville a victory

Hahaha this was funny!!

Convinced that Kyle Kuric's apparent game-sealing dunk in the final second of overtime marked the end of the game, the cheerleader walked onto the court and hurled the ball high in the air in celebration. The only problem was five-tenths of a second remained on the clock, causing the referees to assess a technical foul for delay of game on the unsuspecting cheerleader.
